For over 40 years, Oneness Pentecostal Tabernacle has been positively effecting the community of St. Albans. This is a story still being written...
In December 1974, Pastor Lincoln Graham Sr. with the help of friends converted the record store at 221-01 Linden Blvd. into a temporary meeting place. He named it Oneness Pentecostal Tabernacle so as to differentiate it from the many other Pentecostal groups already located in the area. The first service was attended only by the Graham's family which included seven year old Lincoln, Jr. and two year old Susan.
The opening service was held on December 21, 1974 and Pastor E. Gallimore of Springfield, MA, who also lent the chairs on which the people sat, preached the sermon. The service was well attended but the Sunday morning found them alone again, except for five visitors from Florida. Pastor and Sister Graham had been praying about this move for a long time and so they felt confident that God would provide.
This confidence spilt over into the opening remarks given by Pastor Graham in which he expressed confidence that God wanted to do a great work in the City of New York. He stated that he saw no reason why there should not be many congregations, each numbering more than two thousand souls in this vast city of millions. At the time, it looked like an impossible dream, but today there is no doubt of this possibility.
Approximately one year later, the congregation purchased the property at 221-01 Linden Blvd. The congregation was again debt free in three years and decided on a renovation project to make the building more presentable. They then started a building fund and Pastor Graham proceeded to look around for a larger building. After placing a deposit on an old supermarket in the area, Pastor Graham then saw the present property for sale. This was the answer to years of persistent faith-talk in which he expressed the belief that the place was ideal to build a church. The owner intended to build a school but changed plans and sold it instead. God then worked a miracle to make the purchase possible; it was like a dream come true.
The present building was started in August 1988. It became a test of faith and fortitude but again God worked miracles to bring it to pass. The few faithful people became God's channel of blessing. The dream of a building to seat two thousand people is still alive and there is great confidence that God will bring it to pass. During its forty years, Oneness has enjoyed stable apostolic leadership with two senior pastors. The land is reserved for such a building and if Pastor Graham is not privilege to see it built, then may the dream live on in the youths of this great assembly who will then continue to write the next chapter to the dream of twenty-seven years ago.
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Mark 16:15 KJV
